ARC 102: DESIGN II
This project immerses students in color theory by crafting a vibrant color wheel, blending primary hues to reveal secondary and tertiary shades, and experimenting with tints and shades. Through a dynamic dot composition, students explore spatial relationships, using spheres painted in rich colors to create visually striking designs. The study of primary geometric solids hones their understanding of balance, harmony, and hierarchy, employing complementary or analogous color schemes for maximum impact. By designing a user-specific desk organizer, such as one tailored for an electrical engineer’s tools, creativity meets real-world functionality. In teams, students design a multipurpose partition wall — like a flower shop/workshop divider — maximizing storage, display, and visual connectivity through innovative see-through shelving and pop-up workspaces. Comprehensive drawings communicate each thoughtful mechanism and design element. Culminating in a spring-themed installation inspired by the leaf’s seasonal journey, the project celebrates Bangladeshi culture and nature’s renewal, using vernacular materials to create installations that evoke the luxury and joy of spring. This hands-on journey equips students with vital design skills while inspiring creative expression and practical problem-solving.
