ARC: 101 DESIGN 1
This project develops sensitivity to visual order through structured compositions using geometric elements. First, 28 black squares were arranged on a white grid to balance solids and voids, emphasizing order, harmony, and movement. Next, two line-based works explored orthogonal and angular connections, creating varied spaces and visual flow.
The theme then shifted to “carving out” spaces in styrofoam using geometric forms, focusing on the interplay of light, shade, and shadow. Another exercise involved arranging 100 cubes within a cubic space, promoting understanding of solid-void relationships and spatial rhythm. A further task required connecting planes of different sizes to form balanced three-dimensional compositions. Abstract visualizations followed, drawing inspiration from architectural facades to reinterpret key features with lines, forms, and textures.
Finally, the project culminated in a three-dimensional representation of a film’s core idea — illustrated by using spikes for hardships and curves for sibling bonds in “The Chronicles of Narnia” — highlighting storytelling through spatial design.
